Schwerpunktseminar: Econometric Evaluation of Education Reforms (Wößmann/Zierow)

Governments regularly expose education systems to different kinds of reforms. How do these reforms affect the outcomes of students? Which reforms are successful in raising the efficiency and equity of the education system? This seminar will discuss recent research that evaluates education reforms with up-to-date microeconometric methods. A particular focus will be on difference-in-differences approaches that make use of variation in the implementation of reforms across regions within a country over time. Examples of topics that will be covered include the German G8 reforms, reforms of compulsory schooling laws, reforms of school tracking, child-care expansion, school autonomy reforms, and increases in educational spending.
